Vulnerable adolescent girls around the world are sold or kidnapped into slavery. The U.S. State Department estimates that 1 million children are exploited in the global sex trade each year, an overwhelming majority of these are girls. A worldwide problem, sex trafficking occurs in the U.S. as well as in the developing world. Being enslaved not only assaults the God-given dignity of these girls, but places them at risk of serious physical abuse, of contracting HIV/AIDS, and even of premature death.
