In cultures where girls are viewed as an economic or social burden, the preference for a son is so strong that as technology has enabled the determination of a baby’s gender before birth, many women either choose or are forced to abort their unborn daughter. This murderous practice has become so widespread in some places that severe gender imbalances have resulted, which in turn further place girls at risk of trafficking and exploitation.  “Gendercide” assaults the dignity of both the precious unborn girl and her mother.
