Paton, an advocate for abortion, explains how sex-selective abortion has changed her mind on promoting abortion on demand. “The rise of foetal femicide… has forced me to rethink my previous support for abortion in all circumstances… The received wisdom among supporters of abortion on demand has always been that it was a woman’s last resort, a necessary evil as it were, if contraception hadn’t worked and her personal situation was dire.  Sex-selective abortions, by contrast, are a first resort – and a totally unnecessary evil.”
