United Nations, “U.N. Sustainable Development Goals: Goal 5, Achieve Gender Equality and Empower All Women and Girls,” www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/gender-equality/ (Accessed February 28, 2017).
Building on the Millennium Development Goals (MGDs), in 2016 the United Nations adopted the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in an effort to end poverty and fight inequalities by 2030. SDG 5 addresses the violence girls and women face globally and sets targets to eliminate all forms of violence they face.
