Kenya’s Kuria to halt female genital mutilation in “unlucky” 2017 (Reuters)
Kenya’s Kuria community will not practice female genital cutting this year due to the belief that “7” is an unlucky number. Since the practice is steeped in cultural and social beliefs, activists are urging the government and organizations to take advantage of this year to further educate and sensitize the community to the harm and violence of cutting women.
