Montenegro Introduces Law Against Female Genital Mutilation (Balkan Insight)
In the wake of the Istanbul Convention, Montenegro is drafting amendments to their criminal code to make FGM a criminal offense for the first time. The amendments will also make forced sterilization illegal. While FGM has not been recorded in the country, global migration is causing FGM to spread. The new laws highlight the country’s proactive commitment to protect the dignity of girls and women.
