Child Brides Are on the Rise in India’s Towns and Cities – Report (Reuters)
A study has defied assumptions about the prevalence of child marriage in India. Largely considered a rural problem, where it has actually decreased, child marriage is increasing in urban contexts. The study broke down India’s census data on child marriage and found that nearly one out of four girls in rural areas and one out of five in urban areas was married below 18.
