Building on the Millennium Development Goals (MGDs), in 2016 the United Nations adopted the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in an effort to end poverty and fight inequalities by 2030. SDG 3’s targets include further reducing maternal and neonatal mortality rates and ending the epidemics of AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria.
