González et al. (2016) note that HIV-infected pregnant women in sub-Sahara Africa are the most vulnerable group to malaria, yet also the least protected against the disease due to concerns about the adverse consequences of mixing medications for HIV and malaria. The authors call for action to be taken to evaluate how to best provide effective care for women battling both illnesses.
