Children and Women with Disabilities, More Likely to Face Discrimination (Relief Web)
Recently, more than 700 representatives of non-governmental organizations, private companies, and governments gathered to address the systemic discrimination that exists against people with disabilities at the Global Disability Summit in London. There was a strong consensus regarding the risk that both children and women face. According to André Félix, external communications officer at the European Disability Forum, “Women with disabilities are especially vulnerable to discrimination and violence (three to five times more likely to suffer from violence and abuse that the average [female] population).”
