Alarming Polio Outbreak Spreads in Congo, Threatening Global Eradication Efforts (Science Magazine)
The recent high numbers of polio among children in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is highlighting the urgency to stop the spread of vaccine-derived outbreaks. Doctors are working on a vaccine strategy to prevent the virus from spreading further. While the polio wild virus is nearly eradicated, these new cases seem to be due to circulating vaccine-derived polio viruses.
