Currently, only 69 of Texas’ 163 rural hospitals still deliver babies due to lower birth numbers and higher birth costs. Despite losing an estimated $200,000 annually to provide labor and delivery services, one hospital refuses to cut the service and force women to travel more than 100 miles to the nearest hospital.
