U.N. Millennium Development Goals: Goal 4.A
United Nations. “UN Millennium Development Goals: Goal 4.A, Reduce Childhood Mortality.” United Nations, www.un.org/millenniumgoals/childhealth.shtml (accessed March 7, 2014).
In 2000, the United Nations established a global partnership to eradicate poverty and reduce hunger and disease through concrete steps outlined in the Millennium Development Goals (MDG). MDG 4 focuses on reducing child mortality by two thirds by 2015. Despite progress in improving the survival of children under 5 worldwide, children in sub-Saharan Africa remain acutely vulnerable. As the child mortality rate has declined, the proportion of children who die in the first month of life has increased.
