Gestational Surrogacy

Women who are physiologically unable to carry children are increasingly choosing to find surrogate mothers for their children. Surrogates agree to “rent their womb” and carry an in vitro fertilized embryo to term for another couple, giving the child back to the parents after labor and delivery. In the developing world, the cost of hiring a surrogate is only a fraction of what it is in the West, and surrogates are at increased risk of injury, death, and exploitation.
