The average age of marriage for girls and women varies widely between cultures. In some cultures including parts of South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa, girls are married as young as age 7. In Yemen, 25 percent of girls are married under the age of 15. Although we must be respectful of cultural differences, forced premature sex in very young girls and resulting early pregnancies can pose serious and long term health challenges.
